Getting started

Pick your first thing

Choose tomorrow's one thing tonight and set the reminder that brings you back.

Halden asks you for one thing a day. Not a list, not a plan: one task that would make tomorrow count if it were the only thing you finished. The best time to choose it is the evening before, when today is still fresh and tomorrow has not started pulling at you.

Choose it tonight

  1. Open Halden and tap Tomorrow at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Write the thing in a few words, the way you would on a sticky note.
  3. Tap Set and close the app. That is the whole evening routine.

In the morning, Today opens with your thing at the top and nothing else on the screen.

What makes a good one thing

A good one thing is specific enough that you know when it is done. “Work on the report” is hard to finish; “Send the first draft of the report to Marta” is not.

  • Start with a verb: send, write, call, fix, book.
  • Keep it to something you can finish in a morning.
  • If it feels too big, pick the first part and leave the rest for another day.

On Pro you can add small steps under the thing, but the day still has one thing at the top.

Move the reminder

Halden sends one reminder at 21:30 to pick tomorrow’s thing. To change it, go to Settings, then Reminder, and pick a time that fits your evening. If you would rather choose in the morning, set the reminder for breakfast instead. You can also turn it off and open the app when you remember.

If you change your mind

Tap the thing on Today and choose Edit to reword it, or Replace to pick something else. Replacing it does not count as a missed day: your record only cares whether the thing you ended up with got done.
